Sony slashes 50% off price of PS3 development package

Vistrix| November 19, 2007 4:29 am

 Sony Corporation is currently trying out a new tactic to pump-prime PlayStation 3 software development from video game designers and developers.

Accordingly,  the company has just sliced 50% from the price of PS3 development package. A few developers are still having second thoughts on releasing their games on the console because of its cutting-edge technology.

A new technology like the Cell and Blu-ray, needless to say, means that the games will be made quite differently from already tested formats like those in the previous generation of consoles.

If this strategy works well from Sony, fans can begin to expect seeing more third-party video game titles for the console and that in turn, will further boost the sales of the PlayStation 3. Here are now the new prices for the PS3 development package:

* US$ 10,250 in North America
* 950,000 Yen (US$ 8,600) in Japan
* 7,500 Euro (US$ 11,250) in Europe

“Mr. Tretton conceded that removing that capability, along with a few other features, isn’t dramatically reducing Sony’s cost of manufacturing the console but will instead encourage buyers of the entry-level PlayStation 3 to purchase more games designed specifically for the new system.”
